Telikom Foundation Inc. launched a donation box early this year following the volcano eruption on Kadovar Island in East Sepik Province to assist the affected people. Through the generosity of Kumul Telikom Holdings employees and business houses, all donations were put together by the Telikom Foundation Team and delivered to the Kadovar Islanders at the Dandan Care Centre on Friday 25th May 2018.
The donations included 50 bags of assorted clothing, food and toiletries.
TFI with the support from Kumul Telikom Wewak Team, led by Mr. Danny Mota and his staff, the Provincial Disaster Committee Coordinator, Mr Derek Warakai ensured a successful delivery to the affected people at the Dandan Care Centre.
The team travelled by road for about an hour to Turubu, where the road ends, then took a boat with all the supplies for another 20 minutes by the coast to Dandan Care Centre. Being greeted by cheerful kids by the beach, little did the team know that the Islanders had been living without proper food rations for the last 2 weeks.
The Islanders are divided into 5 communities of just over 690 men, women and children, living close together in the allocated area.
The donations that Telikom Foundation brought in were handed over to the community leaders at the Care Centre to be distributed to the islanders. Telikom Foundation Coordinator Yolanda Bafmatuk while addressing the Islanders explained that TFI’s space is in education. “We brought what we could bring, what we think is needed in terms of food rations and other essentials. We are using this opportunity also to see how we may assist further” – Yolanda Bafmatuk, TFI Coordinator.
